History Reiki
If you are still wondering what it is all about… you have come to the right place.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, powerful energy to heal mind, spirit and life. The principle is that Reiki helps to heal by working on the energies surrounding and within your body, bringing those energies back into balance and releasing any blockages.
Reiki is one of the oldest forms of healing and has been used by civilisations for thousands of years. The Japanese words Rei and Ki translated as one word “Reiki” means “Universal Life Force Energy”
It is a very natural, simple, safe and proven therapy that can provide renewed vitality, restful sleep, increase your well being and your natural healing abilities. Reiki can benefit adults, children and animals alongside it’s many other uses.
There are a number of different variations of Reiki across the world but the principles remain the same to Heal.
Where is it from?
Reiki was developed by a man called Mikao Usui in the early 1900s in Japan. Much of what we know and practice today has grown from Dr. Chujiro Hayashi teachings, who developed further Usui’s original method of Reiki Healing.
Usui Reiki Ryoho came mostly from a woman named Hawayo Takata, who was a student of Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Mrs. Takata is who most Reiki students recognize as the one who brought Reiki over to the West, to Hawaii her home.
Reiki Today
Reiki is not a religion and today it attracts students from all religious and spiritual backgrounds helping to unite people regardless of religious or ethnic background. The common practical uses of Reiki today include;
- Reiki treatments. Deep relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, boost energy levels, feeling of inner calm, speeding up the natural healing process, alongside balancing your mind, body and spirit.
- Self -healing, and providing treatments for family and friends.
- Enhance and support other therapies for example massage and reflexology
- Reiki for animals
- Reiki can be used for clearing and protection. For example in the home and workplace
- Distance healing
In the past Reiki was difficult to explain to others and practitioners would keep the facts to themselves out of fear that others would not understand. This attitude has changed in the past ten years or so and Reiki is now more popular and accepted by both the medical professionals and the public.
Reiki Treatments
What can I expect?
Receiving Reiki from a practitioner is a simple process. Reiki works at bringing us into balance. It supports your body’s natural ability to heal itself at all levels, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. During a treatment you remain fully clothed, lying on a couch or sitting comfortably, the practitioner gently places their hands on or near the body.
What might I feel?
People report different sensations during the treatment. In my experience some people report a feeling of healing, almost everyone reports true relaxation and a feeling of peace. Reiki is excellent for healing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues of any kind. No matter what you feel during a treatment, Reiki is giving you what you need.
So how does that work?
During the treatment energy (called “chi”) is drawn through the practitioner to the recipient, helping to produce a state of balance.
